About
I’m a self taught Rubyist that is passionate about creating web applications that enhance the lives of real people. Maintaining the balance between the technical and business needs of a project is something that I constantly strive for. I love learning from others and sharing my knowledge.
What it’s like to work with me:
- I love the elegance and expressiveness of Ruby! I love creating small focused objects that cooperate together as a cohesive whole, each without knowing the hows or whys of any other piece.
- Automated testing is key to me both as a development feedback mechanism, and to prevent unintended regressions. I love creating solutions that are simple but not simplistic.
- I believe that understanding the business need behind a feature is one of the most important aspects of development.
- I have an eye for visual details. I may be a “programmer” but I also care how things look. :)
- I’m a humble learner. If I don’t know something I’m open and upfront about it. I’m always looking for ways to grow and improve myself and I welcome constructive feedback.
- Reaching a consensus with others and considering multiple perspectives is crucial to me. Perspective makes all the difference.
- I’m always eager for new challenges and love working with others in the solution process.
- I love Vim! I love all the different options for doing similar things and how they can be nuanced into a smooth flow of concise keystrokes. (Recently though I have started dabbling in RubyMine - with Vim bindings of course :))
- I love to write code and specs that tell a story.
A few side projects:
Maze algorithm visualizer is a project inspired by Jamis Buck’s excellent book Mazes for Programmers. Jamis has a great writing style and it is very interesting and insightful read. Once you start generating mazes, it’s actually quite hard to stop! :)
Ruby style quiz is a site that I built to try out the Vue.js framework. I really enjoyed working with Vue.js. It is very approachable and easy to get started with. The quiz is based on the Bozhidar’s Ruby Style Guide.
This site is an outgrowth of my personal collection of shell-related snippets. I had been using Notational Velocity to keep a personal collection of miscellaneous and assorted tips and tricks, and thought others might find it useful. I have found that it is faster to build my own personal collection of these snippets rather than having to google them every time I need to remember the exact syntax or usage details. It is not meant to be complete or all encompassing, just the bits that I often find myself reaching for…
